MESSAGE FROM THE CAPTAIN 15/06
Dear friends at The National,
The summer season is in full swing on our beautiful championship course, a course that is looking absolutely stunning. Challenging with the rough that has suddenly grown thick and gently swaying, creating a fairy-tale-like atmosphere. Fairways like carpets, perfect tee boxes, and beautifully rolling greens.
All of this, friends, is not solely the work of Mother Nature. It is the result of hard work from a top team at The National, our greenkeepers. Under the leadership of Tim, they are literally working day and night to present us with a top-notch course. You may have also noticed that they not only do their job well but also very discreetly, ensuring that you are not disturbed while playing golf. And this is despite the fact that they - I would like to emphasize - always have priority over the golfer. If you see a greenkeeper or any other person within range of your golf swing, you are obligated to wait until they move aside, give a signal to play, or are out of range. This applies both on the course and on the driving range. Always. No exceptions. I insist upon it.
I am mentioning this again explicitly because we recently had a rather serious incident involving one of our greenkeepers who was struck by a ball on the driving range and had to be taken to the hospital. We wish him a speedy and full recovery. For your information, the ball in question was traveling at a speed of over 200 km/h. It goes without saying that this is a dangerous projectile. So if you see someone within range, immediately stop swinging and wait as mentioned above. If you see anyone else disregarding these instructions, please reprimand them and inform me. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to the safety of our golfers and their game.
And continue to enjoy a beautiful summer season at The National. Along with my friends from the Sports Council, we are doing everything we can to provide you with a diverse range of offerings, from the single competition that confirms your true handicap to the family-and-friends formulas that offer you a welcome moment of total relaxation.
In a future letter, I will gladly address the various club championships and athletic achievements, as well as the long-awaited new course rating.
I wish you incredibly beautiful moments at our magnificent club. Keep it safe.
Warm regards,
Christiaan Captain
