MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
It has been an enormous pleasure for me to observe how during the past three weeks The National has come back to life again, following the closure due to the Covid-19 virus. I want to extend a special thank you to our captain Chris Vermeulen for the extraordinary way in which he has overseen the gradual re-opening of The National and for how he has guided the members, the many volunteers, marshals and the team of the National to ensure a pleasant and safe way for all of us to be able to restart our beloved sport.
I am sure that you will all agree that kudos are also in place for Tim Allen, our Head Greenkeeper, for the exceptional way how he managed, also during the time the course was closed, to keep it in excellent condition, notwithstanding the several weeks without rain and the problems with the leaks in our ponds. Tim has been on the course day and night during the past few weeks in order to be able to spoil you all with a wonderful course, even at a time when we have to truck in fresh water.
The team at The National has been busy these past few weeks to prepare the club and the clubhouse to ensure that you will be able to have a nice and pleasant summer at The National. I am happy and proud to be able to inform you that Steve Vermote has been appointed as the new Club Manager of the The National. Until recently Steve was Director of Operations and member of the Executive Committee EMEA of Hilton Hotels. He has extensive experience in Belgium and abroad and has worked at hotels and golfresorts of Intercontinental Hotels, Starwood, Millennium Hotels, Benchmark hotels and Sandals Resorts and hotels.
Together with the Board of Directors I am convinced that The National will be in good hands !
I wish you all a lovely golfsummer,
with warm regards,
Frank Monstrey President The National
